A sentientist is someone who follows sentientism, a worldview that grants moral consideration to all sentient beings, those capable of experiencing pleasure, pain, or consciousness. Sentientists typically reject speciesism and advocate for ethical decisions based on evidence and reason, extending moral concern beyond humans to nonhuman animals and potentially future artificial sentient beings.
Using the term in a sentence:
- I am not a substratist, nor a speciesist, nor a racist nor a sexist. But I do discriminate based on existence, of being, of someone who is, and something that is not. I discriminate based on having subjective experience, a qualia, a phenomenological consciousness. In other words, yes, I am a sentientist.
- All Sentientists are not sexist, but not all people who are not sexist are Sentientists.
